Topics for LEVEL II will be arranged around the six major competencies that are outlined in the publication from the National Association of Elementary Principals (NAESP), entitled Standards for What Every Principal Should Know. These competencies are shown for each of the 6 dates for Level II. Students will also develop a Professional Learning Community as they move through Level II, using their own self-designed learning plan and research project. Participants will be asked to align these standards with those found in the NH Department of Education's competencies for Special Education Administrators (Ed 506.07), as they examine the role of a local public or private school administrator. Credits will be available through PSU or Keene State College at an additional cost. Mentoring opportunities will also be available as part of LEVEL II.
Presenters: Dr. P. Alan Pardy and other practitioners.
Cost: $650, plus the cost of textbooks.

Snow Day
NEW offering for 2010-2011, based on the interest of local directors for more opportunities to pursue, in more depth, issues that are critical to the work of special education administrators. Two topics will be covered, on alternating dates, for a total of six afternoon sessions. The first topic will be that of “Developing and Implementing Local Special Education Policies.” The second topic for Level III will be the implementation of the federal policy on “determination of a learning disability” as outlined in IDEA 2004. Since that federal statute (and subsequent State Rules), there have been many discussions about how to implement this requirement, particularly in light of the growing body of knowledge in the area of Response to Intervention. These three sessions will examine the requirements of the federal and state regulations, the options for local districts, the policy implications, and ways that RtI can be successfully implemented to complement the LD determination requirements, including the collection of data, use of commercial or teacher-made instructional approaches, and the reporting of results.
Presenters: Attorneys and other Practitioners with specialized knowledge. ALL LEVEL III SESSIONS WILL MEET FROM 1:00 – 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $425.

The TEACHER’S ACADEMY is a new offering through NHASEA, and is the result of the recognition of the increasing demands on both general and special education classroom teachers. Specifically, the Teacher’s Academy will focus on the “best practices” in the areas of Instruction and Assessment, along with a focus on understanding and using the General Curriculum. Reviews of research on effective instructional practices, including innovative assessment approaches, will be included, along with a detailed analysis of Charlotte Danielson’s framework for instruction. This Academy will model a Professional Learning Community, with participants developing their own individual goals for the Academy, resulting in a product to be completed and presented at the end of this series. Participants are encouraged to sign up with a colleague. Discounts will be given for teams of general education and special education teachers from the same district.
Presenter(s): Variety of Practitioners.
Cost: $650, not including cost of books.
