NHASEA Announces New Professional Learning Community

2024-2025

Behavioral Support and Strategies PLC

Supporting Professionals Working with Children and Youth with Complex Behaviors and Those Who Oversee and Coordinate Behavior Support Programs

Are you a professional who works with children with complex behaviors? Do you work with educational communities in the development, oversight and monitoring of programs and interventions for children and youth with challenging behaviors?  This PLC will be led by Monique Antaya, Former Special Education Administrator and BCBA, and her team at the Behavior Solutions Collaborative. Join this PLC and collaborate with other professionals who will come together regularly to learn, network, and have the opportunity to:

  • Cultivate a professional learning community that is inspired, energized, and empowered to share successes and challenges in their professional practice and learn from one another.
  • Enhance professional skills in the writing, implementation and monitoring of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBAs)
  • Participate in discussions on relevant topics with other professionals who understand the unique challenges faced by those who work with students with complex behaviors.
  • Navigate and discuss the important roles and responsibilities of professionals who work in the field of behavior management and the impact upon staff, school culture, and student success.
  • Promote the importance of communication and collaboration among all staff working with students with complex behaviors (behavior specialists, BCBA’s, general and special educators, psychologists, counselors, social workers, administrators, paraeducators etc.)
  • Explore and promote ways to develop and create effective and safe programming for children and youth with complex behaviors.
  • Connect with likeminded professionals in identifying tips, tools, and strategies for navigating challenging meetings, conflict and collaborative problem solving.
  • Advocate for improved systemic social and emotional learning opportunities, and tier I interventions
  • Promote the importance of ongoing professional learning for all educators as it relates to students with social and emotional challenges.
