Developing High Quality and Diverse Pathway Leading Toward NH Licensure as a Special Education Administrator

Over the past several years, the NH Association of Special
Education Administrators (NHASEA) has invested heavy
resources into a Pathway leading toward licensure as a NH
Special Education Administrator. Using the New Hampshire
Department of Education’s rules for Administrator Certification
and the competencies for Special Education Administrator, the
NHASEA worked in collaboration with the NHED Bureaus of
Credentialing and Special Education along with Keene State
College in the development of the Pathway. In New Hampshire,
a big challenge is the shortage of licensed Special Education
Administrators, both recruiting and retaining. The NHASEA
modules are designed to address the Special Education
Administrator competencies and typically target those who hold
leadership positions in the field of Special Education (at the SAU
office and building level). Participants can enroll in the modules
once the NHED Bureau of Credentialing has issued a Statement
of Eligibility (SOE) and an approved site-based plan for Special
Education Administrator licensure. This pathway includes
hybrid modules, facilitator for the modules, hands-on special
Education Administration experiences, networking with other
colleagues enrolled in the modules and support from the
NHASEA.

The modules have been developed with the goal of growing,
retaining, and diversifying a highly qualified Special Education
Administrator Pipeline.
