2017 Annual Law Conference

NHASEA will hold its Annual Law Conference at SERESC in Bedford, N.H. on Friday, April 14, 2017 from 8:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. Attendees MUST pre-register. Registration is limited so individuals are encouraged to register early. The cost for the conference is $200.00 for members and $250.00 for non-members. Registration deadline is Monday, April 3, 2017. After that date, registrations will be accepted on a space available basis by calling Denise at 224-7555 and will be assessed a $50.00 late registration fee.

                                                                “Lessons Learned in 2016: What the Courts Have to Say About the IDEAOver the past year Courts and Hearing Officers have weighed in on the subtle and not so subtle nuances of the IDEA and Section 504. Many of the undefined terms that we use every day, have been defined and redefined by these judicial bodies. Your knowledge of these decisions will better equip you to serve students and your district.

Updates on State Law Changes Impacting School Districts” – Jerry and Erin will provide an update on the status of the New Hampshire special education rules, discuss the restraint and seclusion rules that were enacted in 2016, and highlight bills important bills pending before the state legislature. Jerry and Erin will also discuss the rules on records retention and best practices in this area.

Just What is a FAPE” – While the IDEA requires that special education students receive a free appropriate public education (FAPE), courts across the country have articulated different standards of what amounts to a FAPE. Jerry will discuss the competing FAPE standards and which ones control in New Hampshire.
